De la Villa a la Célula
"De la Villa a la Célula" junto al simposio con que culmina, se enfoca en la vivienda social y colectiva, entendida esta no solamente de relevancia para la ciudad, sino como un problema eminentemente arquitectónico.
El workshop revisará históricamente soluciones habitacionales de la ciudad de Santiago contrastándolas con proyectos internacionales. La "villa" entendida como una construcción eminentemente social y colectiva, y la "célula" como lo individual y la arquitectura como objeto aislado, nos permitirán poner a prueba los proyectos de vivienda a través de sus diferentes escalas, recuperando así la noción de la vivienda como un ensamblado espacial, funcional y social.
Se cuestionará el rol de la vivienda como pieza urbana (en tanto pieza-bloque, pieza-continua, y pieza-torre) re-evaluando de forma crítica las intervenciones emblemáticas: de "villas", "unidades habitacionales", y "remodelaciones" a la "célula habitacional". El taller debatirá y examinará - a través de estrategias de representación gráfica y pictórica, diferentes posibilidades de estructuras organizativas genéricas (tipologías fundamentales) que puedan evaluar críticamente lógicas ya aceptadas, como las de la propiedad, la división entre el trabajo y lo doméstico y la inmigración, como nuevas "formas de vida".
En tres semanas consecutivas, los alumnos pondrán a prueba las posibilidades de reinvención de la manzana típica del pericentro de Santiago estructurada en base a lotes de 9 x 18 metros, asumiendo éste como el laboratorio de especulación.

SAM JACOBY
Director, Projective Cities (MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design)
Sam Jacoby is a chartered architect with an AA Diploma and a doctorate from the Technische Universität Berlin in architectural history and theory. He teaches at the AA since 2002, and in addition has taught at the University of Nottingham, the University College London (The Bartlett School of Architecture), the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, and the Royal College of Art. Jacoby has also worked for architectural and planning offices in the UK, Germany, USA, and Malaysia after training as a cabinet-maker in Germany.
FRANCESCO MARULLO
Architect and educator based in Chicago and Rotterdam. PhD in History and Theory of Architecture from the Delft University of Technology. Assistant Professor at the UIC School of Architecture in Chicago. Previously has taught design studios and theory seminars at The Berlage Institute, TU Delft, the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, the Roma Tre University. Marullo has worked with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, Matteo Mannini Architects, and DOGMA. Founding member of the research collective The City as a Project.
MAX KAHLEN
AA Dipl (Hons), Architekt AKNW (Germany). Director and co-founder of Dyvik Kahlen. Max studied at Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design and then at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, where he graduated with Honours in 2008. Lahlen was tutor at Architectural Association from 2009 to 2015, running design units in the First Year, Diploma School and Media Schools. He regularly contributes to the academic discourse as a guest critic and lecturer for leading academic institutions in London and abroad.
