EARTH BECAME SEA
Video de Emma Critchley para Ciudades Sísmicas
Proyección del mediometraje “Earth became sea” realizado en Chile a principios del 2017 por la destacada artista visual británica Emma Critchley en base a un texto de Alejandro Crispiani. Esta obra fue realizada en el contexto del proyecto Ciudades Sísmicas. Lejos de los clichés de los documentales sobre terremotos, el film de Emma Critchley explora las dos facetas de la ciudad, la ciudad construida y su contracara, la ciudad destruida, siempre latente esta última en el caso de Chile y su “tierra activa”.
Antes de la proyección del film, se realizó una introducción a cargo de la curadora Pamela Prado, quien presentó la obra de Critchley y una reflexión sobre arte y terremotos. Luego de la proyección hubo un live-streaming con la autora inglesa, que incluyó los comentarios del profesor Alejandro Crispiani, y luego se dió paso al debate con el público.
El mediometraje se encontrará expuesto en el Hall del Edificio de Arquitectura hasta el jueves 28 de junio.
Emma Critchley
Emma is an artist who works with a combination of photography, film and audio-visual installation, primarily to explore the human relationship with the underwater environment. Emma is Royal College of Art alumni and has developed works funded by institutional organisations including The National Media Museum, The Photographers Gallery, The Arts Council England, The British Council, the Singapore International Foundation and INTERREG IVC (financed by the European Regional Development Fund). Awards include the Royal College of Art Sustain ‘Moving Minds’ award, winner of the British Underwater Image Festival and a number of awards with the Saatchi Gallery including finalist in 2011 'New Sensations'. Her work has been exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at The Australian Centre of Photography, the ICA Singapore, Gerhard Marcks Haus Germany, Eyebeam New York, The National Portrait Gallery, The Turner Contemporary, The Photographers Gallery and the Royal Academy. Her recent commission for Opera North Projects toured to the Southbank Centre and the BALTIC Centre for contemporary art and Leeds Central Library. Emma’s underwater work has enabled her to explore waters across the globe, with recent artist residencies in New York, Barbados and Singapore. As a qualified HSE commercial diver she also works within film and TV.
Emma es una artista que trabaja con una combinación de fotografía, cine y instalación audiovisual, principalmente para explorar la relación humana con el entorno submarino. Emma es alumna del Royal College of Art y ha desarrollado trabajos financiados por organizaciones institucionales como The National Media Museum, The Photographers Gallery, The Arts Council England, The British Council, Singapore International Foundation e INTERREG IVC (financiado por el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional) .
