NOV 06 Conferencia "The anatomy of the architectural book" | André Tavares

"The Anatomy of the Architectural Book" examines the relationships between book culture and building culture, making visible the axes along which architectural knowledge circulates through books into buildings and back. Using five conceptual tools—texture, surface, rhythm, structure, and scale—this lecture analyzes the material qualities of a wide range of books in order to assess these dynamics and intersections. This investigation confronts us with the rise of the industrialized book, and thus of the editor as an important intermediary between the author and the printer, as well as with the configuration of the book as a unique visual device (with the designer taking part in a progressively more complex chain of decision-making).

Es arquitecto y editor, actualmente investigador postdoctoral en el Instituto de Historia y Teoría de la Arquitectura, gta-ETH, Zurich. Desde 2006, dirige Dafne Editora, explorando la publicación como una forma de práctica cultural y arquitectónica. Con Diogo Seixas Lopes fue editor en jefe de la revista Jornal Arquitectos (2013-2015) y co-comisario de la 4ª Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa, “La forma de la forma”. En el Museo de Serralves curó las exposiciones “El cliente como arquitecto y Material en bruto: una vista sobre el archivo de Álvaro Siza”. Es autor de varios libros, entre ellos Arquitectura Antituberculose (Faup-publicações, 2005), Os fantasmas de Serralves (Dafne, 2007), Novela Bufa do Ufanismo em Concreto (Dafne, 2009), Duas obras de Januário Godinho (Dafne, 2012), y en francés L'étoile filante Charles Siclis (éditons B2, 2016). Su último libro, La anatomía del libro de arquitectura (Lars Müller / Canadian Centre for Architecture, 2016), aborda los cruces entre la cultura del libro y la cultura de la construcción.
